Shipping to an FPO address

I have someone who lives in Japan in the military & wants something shipped to his FPO address, he said the shipping cost is the same as anywhere in the US. I know I've seen people say they won't ship to an FPO before, is there a problem with this? can I still get Delivery Confirmation & insurance?

You'll probably have to fill out customs forms, I don't remember if the rates are higher or not, and I don't think insurance is available (you should be able to check on www.usps.com).

You pay the same postage as a package going to NYC from your location I think (someone chime in if I'm wrong). It's domestic mail rates, only you fill out customs paperwork and declare what's in the package.

I'm not sure if they have to pay customs tax on it like a package going from CA-USA, but I'd guess they don't.

It shouldn't matter much as far as time and costs concern (may be a little delay, if it's during the holidays), it's not any different than shipping to other countries. You'll have to fill out custom forms, if the person is in another country (which will be most likely). All other services are available.

EDIT: The best way to ship to an FPO address is through your local USPS, but not any other services.

Use the us postal service. Shipping to an FPO/APO is no different than shipping to another state other than the fact that it will take 10-15 days to get there.

EDIT: I think you can get insurance but I know you CAN'T get delivery confirmation.

it isn't a big deal

Thanks for the advice, sounds like a bit of a pain but still doable. Sounds kinda like shipping to Canada

...Uhh...

It's not a pain. It is just like shipping to any other US address. No forms, no problems...much easier than shipping to Canada or anywhere else.

Just go to your local PO and ask them. To much misinformation on this board.

Not a pain at all. Like has already been posted, the only thing that sucks is no delivery confirmation. Other than that, it's the same procedure for mailing anywhere else in the U.S. And yes, it does take a little longer. But definitely not a pain to do this.
