i had a parcel shipped to me from IOWA, i reside in canada

i purposely told my guy to use FEDEX /wtracking

but he freakin used UPS instead.

he declared the value at $20 and stated as a gift.

will i be charged customs for sure?

becos its UPS...have they ever not charged customs for crossborder shipping?

Hm.. maybe depends on what they mark it as. Gifts under $35 US never gave us a problem.. I used to work at a shipping center.

If you wouldn't try to scam customs, you wouldn't be worried would you?

Please. I'm sure you're happy to hand over every cent the government asks of you. Ever bought something over the 'net to avoid sales tax?

No... I buy stuff on the next because the RETAIL price is cheaper.

Petition your government then to change things. What is so hard about that?

UPS tried to make me pay a $40 duty bill when i had something shipped from US into Canada. I threw it in the garbage and i never got another bill again. They never went to the collection agency or anything. I don't know if it was luck or if you can do it easily again.

Usually true, but I bet you're not complaining about an additional 7-10% savings. Oftentimes the shipping will eat up the difference between local and internet prices.

I only order books from Amazon online and sometimes clothes that are on close outs. Everything else is purchased at B&M. Usually shipping is cheap.

How does comparing saving cash by shopping online to scamming customs compare? One is illegal and one is not. There would be no need to freak if the original poster was honest, but that's a whole lot to expect of people it seems. :p

The poster wanted the guy to ship FedEx. From what I understand, FedEx is less likely to get charged customs fees than UPS. Is using FedEx illegal? Fact is, not all packages get charged customs fees and he's just trying not to be charged.
