Shipping GPU: PCIE connection protector

I'm selling a GPU (shipped) and doing my best to keep everything in good condition. However I can't seem to find the protector for the PCIE connector, which is basically this piece of plastic that covers the PCIE connections on the PCB.

Anyway my question is, is this actually important? I would have assumed no, but seems like every GPU I've bought in the past comes with this protector so I guess there is a reason for it.

For what it's worth, the GPU will be shipped in its original packaging.

It's done to protect the connector.

If it was me shipping it, I would put the card back into the anti-static bag, and then taking a small smooth piece of cardboard, folding in half, and put it over the connector as a precaution before putting it inside the box (assume that their is a foam insert that holds the card in place).

If it helps, my MSI 1070ti came with one.
Maybe that will lead you somewhere??
