Shipping for camera gear rental

Anyone else feel shipping kind of kills the deal when you want to rent something? It probably isn't an issue if you really need it or you can write off the expense for work. However if you're wanting to try out a lens it's usually ~$50 for any lens that's worth trying, add $25 shipping, $8 insurance and tax and now that rental has become almost a $90 rental.

Yea renting in general is a tough proposition if it's a lens you plan to buy and just want to try it out. I think renting is good for scenarios where you know you won't ever buy the lens and just need that lens for a specific use. Even something like a gopro where you only use it to go snowboarding or do active stuff. If you only do that on vacation and take that type of vacation once a year, then renting a gopro for each trip makes better sense, especially when you also are getting the latest and greatest for each trip.

Best bet for renting is a local source that does not involve shipping.
