Shipping a Police Baton

I'm a brit living in the US and just got a message from my dad. He had a run in with some drunk guy trying to pick a fight on his way home from the pub and shooed him off with a fortunately placed brick.

He would however, prefer an extending baton for any such problems in the future. Trouble is they are not for sale in the UK and are listed as dangerous/offensive weapons. He wants me to order one here (already ordered) and ship it to him.

Is there anything I need to do/declare when shipping it to him to make sure it doesnt get nabbed by customs? If it does do I get in trouble or is the merchandise just lost forever/destroyed?

Cliffs:

-Dad wants a police baton
-Police batons illegal in UK
-I live in the US, batons are legal to purchase
-Anything I should know about shipping a baton to him?

If they inspect the package at the border they'll confiscate it and contact the sendee (to which he should reply he doesn't know wtf it came from). Don't put a return address on it. :)

Good luck getting someone to help you ship illicit goods to a foreign country.

My advice is, wrap it in marijuana.

If it got caught by customs it's gone forever.

IIRC, the British gov/police typically frown on people defending themselves. I think the recommended response is to curl up in the fetal position on the ground and hope the threat goes away.

I didnt state anywhere that I thought it would be legal for him to have it :p I know quite well that its not. Im trying to think of a way to get it to him without it being confiscated.

He doesnt much care for the legality of owning it :p

Go fvck yourselves.

OP: tell your dad to try a bit harder - you can get these weapons quite easily in the UK.

My baton is pretty heavy. I wouldn't consider carrying the dang thing around. I do keep it in my 4runner though.

Pff, warez is far more frowned upon. ;) Shipping this 'weapon' wont cost a corporation somewhere in lost sales revenue so I would be comitting the 'lesser' crime here :p

He used to have one, before they were made illegal. He also had a handgun, before they were made illegal. Basically, my country has turned into a commie haven where the self defence motto of "Run away!" is even observed by the police.

tell him to just get a 4x4 and some nails heavy metal and duct tape.
full on fvcking barbarian style.
probably more effective than a riot baton.

Easier way. Take a 2' copper pipe, cap at one end. Fill with 1-2 pounds of lead shot and finish off with plaster of paris. Use foam & duct tape on the other end to create a handle. Not as sleek as a police baton but has the same effect when swung.

I used to carry a big broomstick in my car when I was in high school... figured it could come in handy if I had to "rumble", but then I realized I had never known anybody to get in a rumble that wasn't asking for it, so I don't carry it anymore. But wouldn't a broomhandle do the same thing?

Yea or a bit of d12 reinforcing steel, or a big maglite as suggested above, but they're not concealable.

Walking into a Scottish pub with a broomhandle would probably guarantee its use :p He wants the automatic extending baton since its easy to pocket and quick to use if necessary.

I guess if I had been completely ignorant I would have shipped it labelled as a gift, who would really think such a thing is illegal when its nothing more than a heavy stick. Knives and guns I can understand...but a stick? cmon..
