I'm about to mail out a hard drive to a fellow AT person and I'm wondering what the safest way to do it is. I put it in a static guard clam shell from my old Seagate OEM drive, wrapped the clam shell in bubble wrap, put styrofoam on the bottom and top of the box, & wedge bubble wrap on the sides to keep it from moving... Does this sound alright?

double box it. Go to the post office and pickup a priority mail box that is the right size for inside your other box.

I usually triple box my stuff. Just so those bad post office workers can run it over with a truck, and still be ok :D

Sounds fine to me, as long as nothing moves.

I posted this in a OT thread in the FS/FT forums earlier today, somewhat similar:

I just shipped a stick of memory and used an old CD-Rom snap-in cover (the thing you remove to mount your CD-Rom) to help protect it during shipping. I placed the ram in a anti-static bag, then placed the bag inside the snap-in cover. It fit perfectly. Used a little foam to cushion the rest.

Just a tip. Don't know if you guys have tried this or not.

Put the hd with padding into a smaller sized box, then drop the whole thing inside a priority mail 12x12x8 box filled with popcorn. Make sure to insure it.

Hehe, don't do what my friend and i did. We just threw the hard drive into one of those 6x4x1.5 inch usps boxes and mailed it. It wasn't a sale though, so we weren't too worried about losing out on it.
