Ship to Hong Kong from US or Taiwan?

Background: This seller from Hong Kong shipped the wrong item to me. I offered to send back the item if he sends me the correct item and pays for return shipping, which he agrees to.

Here's the question: Would it be cheaper/faster/more secure to ship from the US, or ship from Taiwan, since I am heading there in two days? I figure since both Taiwan and Hong Kong are part of China, it might be cheaper, and Taiwan is obviously closer to Hong Kong than the US, so it'd get there sooner with less chance of getting lost.

Anyone possibly have experience shipping from Taiwan? (It's a long shot I know 🙂 )
 
Since China and Taiwan ain't exactly in friendly terms, will that delay your shipment to clear custom and all ?
 
No, what makes it worse is that he goes to a university, meaning he should have a higher form of education (and I use that term loosely) ;p
 
Well, it is Taiwan R.O.C. (Republic of China), so I think technically its part of China. That's why there's also still such a debate over if Taiwan will declare independence from China or not.

Thanks for the input Spanky, anyone else have thoughts?

Mainland china is part of P.R.O.C(People Republic of China)
R.O.C official claim to own Taiwan, and mainland china(lost the war to P.R.O.C in the battle).

P.R.O.C official claim to own mainland china, and Taiwan, however they have never step foot into Taiwan.
Currently R.O.C rule Taiwan. and P.R.O.C rule mainland china
One country, two different government.
