Don't train too hard when you have just been injured. Take it easy or you WILL be injured again. This is a lesson learned. When you come back TAKE IT EASY.

I'm coming off an injury (8months ago) and it REALLY sucks like no other. Missed my chance to make nationals this year 🙁. Going to have to wait at least 30months before I can get the senior qualification totals 🙁. But f0ck me I'll be 'smart' and take the recovery properly and eventually make it.

Very very annoying.

I did my recovery properly. After the 2 weeks were up i ran. On the second day back and from then on i ran hard. By that i mean, i did longer distances, faster sprints, and faster tempos.

So it looks like i might have to wait out longer?? 🙁 🙁

Read what you wrote again please. You did not do your recovery properly. After your 2 weeks were up you ran like that. Read the bits in bold. It isn't any wonder your injured again.

After your 'rest' period you ARE NOT 100%. You should be EASING BACK IN TO TRAINING. Your not in anywhere near training fit to get back 'normal' training, let alone hard training. It isn't just the wait but you have to ease back in to training.

What did your coaches think? They sound very crap if they told you to do this the 2nd time around after the shin splints. First time yeah that can happen they may not your whole history etc. But to get you to train harder after 2nd shin splints is not smart.

Your shins don't magically recovery within 2 weeks and more so when you pound on them again in training hard. Training on them lighter would be better to ease them back in to training.

Please go read some books about training methods and ideas. You will save yourself a lot of heartache and hassle.

YOU.....ARE....RUNNING.....TOO.....MUCH. I know you and your team and your coach and everybody wants you to get up to speed and be competitive ASAP, but you're going nowehere at this rate....obviously.

It sucks, I know, that you're trying this your senior year so there's no competitive future in it for you after this season, but the best you can do is build your muscles and gradually bring up the mileage of your running. You really have no hope whatsoever of giving this other guy a run for his money at this stage....and that's especially true if you're injurred when you compete.

Sound like you have an aptitude for it, though, so stick with it.

First off my coaches are not pushing me to do it this hard. I am pushing it. Apparently too hard. On spring break i felt so good though. One day i went on a 5 mile run for ~40mins. I felt awesome. But then about 2 days later i noticed the pain starting up again, but i didn't think much of it and worked on my intervals. Though to take a precaution, and because it is cool, and because it is good for you, we ran one day of intervals in the sand (Utterly impossible, but i know it does A LOT). Now today about 4 days later it is back to where i had to cut out of intervals again.

The first time, I told my coach that i was just going to try to run through it. He flat out told me "No". My coaches know exactly what they are doing, its just i cant take just sitting on the sidelines while watching the races that i could have EASILY come in first just go by. I haven't even gotten a chance to use my spikes!!

Will swimming keep me in running shape, and even improve the shape i am in now (ie: Lower times just as well as running with the team)? If so, after school everyday, I will go to the YMCA, swim laps, and then go and work out afterwards. As of right now, i am going to get another doctors appointment and see what they think. Until that point i guess i am still on the Injured Reserve List 🙁

I have never been injured in a sport before (Baseball, Swimming (To go into my childhood: Soccer, and Football). I just feel like i am letting the team down. Err better yet, i just feel helpless; like i cant do anything about the situation.

Suck it up and wait it out. It is a pain in the ass but as you have seen pushing yourself when your injured and STILL recoverying is not the smart way to go about it. I have ben going through the same thing as you but for the past 8 months. Not fun and just a lot of BS.

LISTEN TO YOUR COACHES. Don't be a knuckle head and 'train on your own'. Use your coaches who have many many more years experience over you.
