Shin Etsu G749 thermal paste question.

I just bought four tubes of Shin-Etsu G749 the other day, but I am suspicious of it's authenticity. The stuff I have came in a Shin-Etsu syringe but a little bit of the stuff was on the out side of the syringe. Each "tube" of my grease are not filled with the same amount of G749, some are filled from 0.4 to 0.55-ish mark on the syringe even though they were advertised as full 1gram tubes.


I have never seen thermal paste as thick and gluey with a viscosity like JB Weld, it's almost like trying to spread one day old chewing gum on a processor. How thick is this stuff supposed to be?

Was the seller refilling the tubes with a counterfeit?
 
Since you seem to have choosen to have an issue with me. 😀 I would suggest you PM Susquehannock into this thread. He doesn't post often but when he does he seems to nail it pretty hard. He knows Shin Etsu, X23-7783D is his TIM of choice.

I've used CoolerMaster Premium and it is blended using G-749. TIM viscosity can be adjusted as can be read here http://www.silicone.jp/e/products/oil/faq/faq002.html

Shin Etsu G-749 has been replaced by G-751-1,iirc, and it is has a lower viscosity.

I think your seller had a mega tube of 749 to be rid of and just broke it down for resale. I've bought very high-end lubricating greases this way. I couldn't afford $50 for a tube that would never be fully used.

When using the one dot of AS-5 install, I pre-heat the HS and the dot will spread faster and be thinner. Pre-heat is done with a heat gun but a hair dryer would do.

Thank you for the advice. I have set stuff on fire using a heat gun, I would hate to use it on an electronic circuit; especially a computer where you can destroy silicon and melt solder.
 
The *heat sink* is pre-heated prior to being installed. The HS would be out of the case
and heated very warm to the touch. This heats the TIM and it squishes much more readily.
