What software told you that Shield Square is bad? It's software to stop forum spam.

NONE!

If AT is happy with Shield Square as a home page - So be it - I'll take care of my own Advertizing Spam - Have you attempted to restore 3rd Party DOS backups such as GHOST's with Shield Square on board - Better wipe you RAM by Powering off and let the Platform discharge before booting into DOS as it seems to destroy DOS Navigation.

I would not be surprised if it isn't MS sponsoring this DOS Killer App.

Oh, the captcha page. There's a thread about this. http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2449124
Ken G6 - You're a smug as RamptAndroid ;o)

the captcha page
Is the least of the Issue.

Protect the Site from this damaging Browser/System Embedded Ad-ware - Period.

WOWA! PS:

My DOS Navigation may have been my fault - Poor eye site and broken fingers but not excluding what I said before - Anyway Shield Square " captcha in a browser is crap and almost impossible to get rid of.

Let us know how you may have picked it up and got rid of it ;o)

HALP!

All of the sudden every time I click on an action on the forums (reply, control panel, quote, etc) I'm getting prompted to identify pizza, taxis, donuts, constrution machines, french fries, etc. ;)

I've cleared out the cookies, and now I can't even logon to here via my primary machine. Right now I'm having to VPN in on a different computer so I get a different IP address.

What gives? What do I/you/they need to do to resolve this?

Update - just saw a few posts above a link to the same problem http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2449124

I clicked on 'open in a new tab' and the NEW tab now shows suspicious activity blah blah blah blah....I dont even know if this edit/update will go thru :(

Are you using an up-to-date browser?
Are you using a VPN?
Is there anonymization or spoofing going on, on your end?

SquareShield should only be catching the above, and once answered, should be fine for some time in terms of session.

Irrelevant in my opinion.

Is there anonymization or spoofing going on, on your end?
Possible infection - But from where - AT?

I'm not saying Shield Square is the issue but I suspect Shield Square has been HACKED and what no better Site then AT.

One thing I can contribute is that it's a System Hack possibly through your browser that does NOT retain info in your Browser nor the Registry and contaminates the OS.

MrBlotto's input may have a hint!

But why specifically pick on AnandTech?

I conclude AT forums is Infected when for example opening a "New Thread" I'm just surmising.

I can not find a solution nor fix for this issue on AT other then over-writing my last good GHO OS UpDated Image from last month through a DOS Boot.

That`s why I started this thread and I know I`m not alone. Mean while, I will keep pushing this issue until someone finds a FiX because I CAN'T.

I would not be here if I was infected.

I would not be surprised if MS free UpGrade updates to WinX in collaboration with NSA has something to do with it - Where's my tinfoil ;o)

PS: I'm booting Win7 64-Bit Sp1 Ultimate.

1. Yep - FF 40, IE 11
2. Nope. Plugged straight into the company LAN w/a static 9dot IP addy
3. Not to my knowledge
4. That's what I thought too, but it was asking me each time I clicked any 'action' button (reply, quick reply, quote)

But like I said, it's working fine today.....go figure

Of course, it's working fine today.....go figure

Z15CAM, our tech folks have analyzed your posting and thread viewing patterns to determine what the issue may be. As it turns out, there were some clear bot characteristics on some of your anonymous browsing activities (when you weren't logged in) that may have triggered SquareShield's activation. It has so far not served you any captcha requests when you are accessing AnandTech using your login credentials and normal browsing requests.

We consider the spam and bot threat to be a serious one here at AnandTech, and will take steps necessary to protect users. Hopefully, browsing the site won't give you any additional issues if you are able to do so while logged in on your user account.

Hope this helps.

jpishgar - BINGO and Thanks for your background work and explanation.

One of the very reasons I keep a clean image of my OS.

You never know when you will get into trouble or dare to go there online and why AT Site runs Shield Square.

SOLUTION: Is to Log-Off AT and browse other domains at your own risk.

May be you should mention to Anand about the Village Idiot and his Barrel of Monkeys. Lot of great .Com Sites developed from the #Windows95 IRC channel on Dalnet Servers. - AKA: SafeMode ;o)

WOWA - Sorry to say it but your still wrong - Shield Square still blocks your site. Accusing Members of Suspicious activity and will not allow a Member to open your Forum Site.

Maybe because I have a Canadian ISP or like to view the American Gun Hickok45 Channel on U-Tube and post a few comments?

You can &$&@ your Shield Square or I would not be here!

Hint: Google "AnandTech Forums" and use that link; in other words, if use AnandTech Forums as your Home Page you're &#$* by Shield Square and screw "solve captcha" by using Google Search = A pain in the butt.

I've done enough testing on this Shield Square issue to know it's not my problem.

What a Fuck Up - It's up to AnandTech to FIX IT.

Convince me!

After 3 or 4 hour's your Shield Square unlocked my FF Browser access to AT Forums Home Page (or more likely my ISP or my specific IP LATA address) so I can load AnandTech Forums Home Page.

Have I passed by NSA - Or do I need more tinfoil?

Big Brother is Heavy Duty on the Net.

I got nothing to hide but I know when I'm being tapped and can fight.

Appears RampantAndroid's post titled: "Suspicious activity detected page" discusses the same issue. http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2449124

Yes I'm copying out. What a waste of time and effort in to Deaf Ears.

AKA: SMUG.
