incredible game, on an incredible system..
my ps2 sure does dissapoint....but i only have ssx and madden 2001
nfl2k1 is by far the way better game...
ssx is very cool, but where are the breakthrough graphics and it slows down to much. sony needs MGS2 fast.

I love my Dreamcast. Jet Grind Radio is coming out in a few days too. Unless they royally screw up the translation (pretty hard with a game already in english, but it's been done), it will be awesome. The Japanese version was pretty cool anyway.

I don't think I'll buy Shenmue though. I'll rent it with my Blockbuster gc's and then buy it later for like 15 bucks or whatever it'll go for used at funcoland :)

Yea; PS2 is great. DC is great. I'll keep both, thank you. And I can't wait till I pick up my copy of "Jet Grind Radio," it looks great! Anyone actually play the game?

Check out this review:
daily radar

Sounds incredible! Playstation 2, eat your heart out. With new games like this, and with instant classics like Crazy Taxi and Soul Calibur going to a $20 pricing level, Dreamcast is clearly the superior system right now.

I preordered my Shenmue from Buy.com a while back...man, when it comes to this game I don't care how much I pay. It's a 4-discer too...I'm so excited!

Actually, just 3 game disks and a bonus online / help disk. Still a huge game though. Check out the review at dc.ign.com if you want to know more. I'm suprised they haven't reviewed JGR yet though... came out thursday with nba2k1.

i've played the demo of shenmue, it's dubbed(and YET ANOTHER SORRY job of IT as well), and i'm boycotting it. i'll do what i should have in the first place and borrow my partner's j verz--least i won't have to wait a year to be disappointed when chapter 2 comes out

Shen Mue is Dubbed ??? Ewwwwwwwww !:disgust:
Another good things got screwed.
Just like DoA Hardcore on PS2. Ughhhh.
Do they ever realized that no matter what they did, the dub voice will never be as cute as the original voice ?
Why don't they just put 2 voice track in there, DC has 1 GB GD-Rom, PS2 has DVD, should be enough right ?
Anyway, dubbing stinks really bad. :(

They did make a new voice track, but they synced the mouth movements to match the new recording. So it's not so much dubbed as released in a new language. Also, according to the IGN review the voice acting isn't too bad - especially when compared to voice acting in other video games. It's certainly got to have the best voice acting on dreamcast (then again it's competition - house of the dead, resident evil - isn't much). Somehow with this game, subtitling the whole thing would take away from the immersion that the game is going for eh?

If you're interested in the Limited Edition version (it has a differnet cover and a soundtrack cd), you can get it at Sega.com. It costs the regular $49.95, but the shipping is free too.

PLAY the DEMO, and then tell me what yawl think. this is just as bad as tokyo extreme racer2 having u.s license plates on ALL THE VEHICLES IN THE GAME(is that immersive? how?) shenmue is BASED IN JAPAN/CHINA... i want what i want for my money--not what the suits who spend my money on bmw and trophy wives THINK i want
edit: MY MONEY

What unclebud mean is that since we are the one who pays for the game,
we are the one who decide what we want.
In this case we (me or unclebud) want Shen Mue NOT to be dub.
Just ask true anime fans, they would not watch anime dub.
The dubbing sound is really awful (most of the times) compare to the real one.
Have you watch Mononoke Hime ?? and the one release on the US with bunch of overpaid actor ??
Exactly !

I think that it is much ado about nothing. So it's dubbed, there have been worse things in the world. I understand what you are saying, but I think you're taking it to far.

Whoa whoa whoa. Don't question my anime-ness. Don't get me wrong, the DUB must be worse than the original Japanese version. But would you really rather pay $50 buy a Jap version and not understand what is going on or pay $45 for a three-disc game that is dubbed/subbed in English and understand what is going on? I can see the obvious choice here :)

I'm not questioning anyone anime-ness.
It's just a matter of preference.
Some people would not mind with dubbing, but some people really mind.
Kinda like choice of food, how do you like your pizza ?
The way you want it cos you paid for it, right.
Of course I don't want to pay for Japanese version that I don't understand.
I don't want to pay for the dubbed version either.
What I want is, subbed version (or as I say before give us choices in the game).
As great as the game is, I just can't see myself playing the dubbed version.
Not now, not ever, I miss it, fine by me.

This is EXACTLY why I do not purchase any US software anymore. I've got my JPN DC, PS2, etc etc so that I can play the JPN games. Doesn't matter to me since I know Japanese.

In a way, I'm boycotting the US companies for always screwing up translations. Yeah, I know. Its a worthless 1 man crusade.

kyutip: I wouldn't associate 'cute' with Shenmue. ;)
