Was there an option for Japanese voices in the North American releases?

The Dreamcast version of Shenmue 2 was in Japanese no matter how you slice it, including the version the UK got, that Americans were going to get that Peter Moore got canceled in the US to make a Xbox exclusive. When it finally did come out on the Xbox it had an English dub. I didn't have the cash to buy a whole console just for one game so I imported mine from the UK and played it in Japanese. After later buying an Xbox along with the official US release and English dub, I stand by the Dreamcast version. Not even so much for the dub either, but for the superior VGA mode which in my opinion is slightly higher quality than the regular 480p on Xbox.

Heh I was interested to hear how they did motion capture and all that since it was almost the first time anyone used it for a game. Especially one with so many different movements and situations.

My favorite part about Shenume was that you could sync the game weather to the actual weather on that day. Yeah, that is like super nerdy and lame, but I really enjoyed it.

With that said, this is likely too little too late. It better be such an amazing game, otherwise, I'm disappointed already.

Nah, I think people want the story. The whole world of Shenmue is special to some people, myself included. I just want the game and I couldn't be disappointed in it. If it's like Shenmue 2 I'll like it. Although I know there is a big group who will forever complain about it not being the way they think a game should be. They'll complain about the controls, the mondane day to day stuff you always had to do in Shenmue, the fighting, the QTEs, the story the list can go on forever. There are simply a lot of people today who seriously have no idea what the game is about, the history of it, and started gaming with the 360. They'll hear about it from IGN or Gamespot, fans will be hyped, they'll be hyped and buy it too, then come online to moan about it all day.

This is a labor of love for Yu Suzuki and the fans. If people realize that they won't be disappointed.

Yea because they will be comparing it next gen and not understanding the style and type of game it always was perhaps because they never got pulled in it on the xbox or Dreamcast or even played it at that time back then. So to those who buy it for the first time will surely be disappointed.

Whenever I played it on xbox I always got a feeling of nostalgia, the story was a typical one you could understand nothing over the top and the characters, well they grew on you as well as the atmosphere. Brings back the happy days of my teen years when there was nothing to worry about.

We will have to see though. Maybe the game play will be evolved a bit over previous iterations (as I think it should anyhow). Especially the controls. They should be more fluid now, especially with a modern game engine powering it.

what he said....

It is easily one of the best world creation in RPGs that has ever been done. People not only had personalities, but schedules and moved throughout the town.

It also did pretty much everything you want in an RPG. It had a decent fighting engine, a good story, and graphics that were great for the time. Plus, it had that Japanese quirk. Sure, it had some tedium, but racing fork lifts before work was an awesome idea! And, probably completely illegal.
