Not a word about the responsibility of the people who got the animals there in the first place. Sure, they screwed up, but it's not like if they hadn't, those animals would have been just fine. The shelter is getting bitched at for killing animals too late, which they were supposed to prevent by killing animals earlier. Yeah, unforgivable, trying to give the animals as much chance as they could. What kind of people work at animal shelters? That's right, soft-hearted animal lovers who hate killing animals. If it weren't for those kind of people, willing to do the work they do for the pay they get, there would be no shelters, and those animals would probably have starved to death.

Maybe that would be better in the end. Maybe if our streets were suddenly littered with dead emaciated kittens and puppies, something would be done differently. But I know better. They'd just bitch at the garbage people for not picking them up fast enough.

Everything is always somebody else's fault.

I agree. Most people are selfish and treat non-human life as a disposable asset.
If you are going to sentence your "pet" to death, have the balls to do it yourself.

Wow, they recommend that an animal be put down after 72 hours of not being adopted?!?!?!?! That's pretty fvcking fast.

When I was a teenager I volunteered at a local Humane Society. Some of the stuff I saw there would break even the coldest human heart. I had to quit, it started messing with my head, and while I love my pets I'm not a typical "crazy animal loving PETA card carrying member".

You don't kill dogs and cat to eat and survive.
And I know a few people who raise cattle. They will not allow themselves to grow attached. It's kind of sad.

The word "survive" doesnt make much sence to me... you dont absolute need to kill to survive in today's age. We eat it for enjoyment. Similarly we are killing these cats n dogs so that we dont have to spend the money on them and can use it for our other entertainments

When I picked up my puppy from the pound, there were several animals that were not in good shape and would obviously never be adopted and have to be put down. It's an unfortunate fact that there aren't enough resources to properly care for every animal, so I'm fine with shelters putting down animals when they decide it's needed.

It's easy to point the finger at a shelter that did "bad", but they're not the ones that put the animals there in the first place.

It's probably too late, but would everyone please notice the word that appears only in the URL link and not anywhere else in the OP:

OUTBREAK

It's not like they put them down for sh*ts and giggles. Parvo and Feleuk would have killed the entire colony, and in a much more painful manner.

That said, the shelter needs a kick for not recognizing the signs, and one for overcrowding. The 72h limit is also a bit recockulous IMHO.

7000/year come in, 1000/year get adopted.

Something has to be done, regretfully.

Spay, neuter, and avoid the pet shops if possible.

People that pick up from pet shops make me sick. I'd love to stick you in a cage, breed you and sell your offspring to the Chinese mafia.

... now that I think about it, you'd probably enjoy the breeding part, I'd have to think something up for that one.

Cats and dogs are cute. Cattle are not. When's the last time you saw a little girl hug a steer? That's why we eat chicken but not ponies. Or prefer salmon instead of dolphins.

So everybody on earth should be a vegetarian? Or you just not smart enough to realize you have to kill something to eat meat.

It seems you are a moron not to read the whole thing and just pump so idiotic conclusion. What I am saying is that if you can kill animals to eat them without guilt then why cry about killing other, why the double standard - i feel the two killings are no different. I hope I am geting through your bitch brain

Some of us are crying against the overall status of the shelters not because there is a double standard. The cows being killed are serving a purpose...they are food. We are not killing cows because some little girl wanted a baby steer for her birthday and got bored after a week. Or because some jack*** doesn't want to spend under $100 to have their pet spayed or neutered. We cry because of the waste and ignorance and lack of responsibility.
