Hey ATers,
TrakAuto and SuperTrak are currently selling Shell Formula Automotive Motor Oil (the stuff you should be putting in your car, but aren't) for $.99 per quart or 11.88 per case (of twleve quarts). I picked up 5 cases of 5w30 but I believe this deal is good for 10w30, and other Shell Formula oils. For those of you who don't know, TrakAuto is based primarily in the DC, Md, Va and Pa area. They may have stores elsewhere. Stop in and check it out.

BTW - This is not Synthetic Oil.

All the TrakAuto stores near the chicagoland area closed down. This is a decent price for oil. I figure anything under a $1 is good although sometimes you can get a case for ~$10 on quality oil. But this is definitely name brand oil.

Walmart brand oil $0.84/quart. Even cheaper by the case or by the 5 quart container.

my view is oil is oil in this day and age of technology.

Is there anything wrong with Quaker State?

The NEW quaker state is OK, Castrol is still the Worst OIL you can use. I have broken down enough engines and saw what castrol will do to a engine.

The best oils I have seen and use are...

1. Mobil
2. Vavoline
3. Havoline

These are good. I use Mobil oil and Mobil 1 in my cars and truck.

No. I have 2 identical cars, wife drives one, and I drive one.
I ran Wal-Mart SuperTech in hers for 5-years.
Castrol GTX in mine for about 7-years.

Both cars still run perfectly and are only 10k miles apart (hers at 187k miles, mine at 197k).
The oil pressure in mine has decreased. Hers, still perfect. She drives her car harder than I do too, and it goes 5k+ miles between oil changes. I changed mine every 3k miles.

Moral of the story - Wal-Mart SuperTech is just fine. If it's 0.84/qt, they've recently raised the price because it was 0.78/qt last time I checked.

I have never heard of either of the stores mentioned by the OP.

Mobil1 5w-30 is all I use...

Walmart has 5 QT Mobil1 Jugs for $17.88 off and on at various locations... I usually pick up enough to keep 3-4 in stock all the time since they don't carry it but a few times a year... it is better than paying $4.79 for single quarts.
