Here's an insight to a piece of MichaelD's World.
A few days ago, I asked the fiancee what she wanted for her birthday. Why didn't I surprise her? B/C as I got older, I got smarter.
I learned a loooong time ago that "creativity and surprise" are bad ideas when it comes to shopping for women. Whatever you buy, whether it's a $2 pair of gloves or a $45K car, it's guaranteed to be "The Wrong""
1. size
2. color
3. shape
4. texture
5. scent
6. taste
7. her friend has one already
8. or she just doesn't like it
She thought about it and said "Shoes. I want shoes! I need some new shoes for work...will you get me shoes?"

Um...mm'kay, sure honey.
x 2
So, today we went walking around some different stores until she found the perfect pair of conservative black shoes for work. I told her to get another pair or two, but she said "Nope. One pair is fine...but I do need some socks."
Sooooo.....she picked out 6 pairs of socks....that she wont' wear w/the shoes. She is ridiculously happy.
The funny thing is that she has her own money...plenty of it....she has no bills. She could've bought her own work duds, but instead of asking me to get her a "frivilous gift" she went practical.
And that is why I'm marrying her.
Oh, I also took her to a really nice restaurant for lunch.
The End
Cliff Notes
Fiancee wanted shoes and socks for her birthday instead of jewelery or clothes or anything else.
ps
I got her a MP3 player (Creative Nano Plus) for Valentine's Day and took her to a fancy schmancy restaurant.
pps
There's no point to this thread...this IS OT, remember?
