I agree with notfred....but then again, YMMV. I did it for a couple of years and everything was fine, but i dont date psychos that would try to do something like that

I dunno about the patch on the ass thing, I mean, am I the only one who grabs the girls ass while she rides? Wouldn't it come off?

It can go numerous places on her body.

It's 99% effective, which is better than condoms. My wife has had it for half a year and no problems here.

i asked for an iud but my doctor refused to give me one saying it will cause cancer and make me sterile.

Wear a condom? Why even bother with birth control then? :p

maybe she cheated on you and you didnt know, maybe her cycle is off, maybe the birth control doesnt work, maybe she misread the instructions on proper usage, maybe she stopped the birth control without telling you.... need I go on?

its both parties responsibilities to prevent unwanted pregnancies and as a guy I also want to cover my ass to make sure that a girl doesnt try to get pregnant on purpose to screw with my life or to try and fix a failing relationship

Paranoid much? Or just a bad judge of character?

Call me paranoid if you want but I like to make sure that I will only have a kid when I'm ready to have one. I've heard stories before of women purposely getting pregnant to try and fix a failing relationship. I know that I can rely on myself to take proper precautions and it helps to eliminate some of the risk of your partner screwing something up.

Maybe you should just keep to dating responsible, mentally balanced girls.

I'm with Gobadgrs ... my cousin's g/f told him that she's on BC ... 2 months later, she's pregnant ... 4 months after that, they're married.

Game, set, match, Gobadgrs.

If you like to 100% put your future in someone elses hands, then believe everything they say about what they are doing birth control. Just don't bitch on AT when you get your SO pregnant because you didn't show any responsibility.

Depends on the type of IUD. Options such as DMPA provides a 0.3% failure rate (That's about what a Vasectomy's failure rate is) while IUD Progestasert (last 1 year) has a 2% failure rate, 0.6% with IUD Copper T380 (lasts ~10 years), and the best at 0.1% with IUD Mirena (lasts ~5 years). IUDs also have more contraindictions than DMPA. At less than 1%, it's really about personal preference.

Why not get a vasectomy? Higher success rate than a condom, and it can be reversed with a fairly high success rate. :)

Your doctor lied to you, or is misinformed... there is no hormones in an IUD... what would cause you cancer?... the ONLY risk in having an IUD (besides your body rejecting a foreign object, which could be said about anything) is that in women that have never had children, there was a slight risk that it would puncture the utereus... but they are plastic now, no longer copper. So, the risk is even less.

You dont have to pay for pills every month, or a patch every six months... there are no creams or jellys to buy and you dont have to have a check up every few months... it goes in and is good for 5 years or 5 million miles.. whichever happens first.

No one makes money on them every month.. that is why I think they dont like to give them to women.

:)

edit: I take it back... there is a slight risk of pelvic infection.. usually caused by the body rejecting a foreign object.

Progestasert contains progesterone (hormone) and Mirena contains levonorgestrel (hormone). There's also a risk of uterine perforation upon insertion.

As far as I am aware.. and I asked three times before I got the last one... (Paragard) I have no hormones in this iud... I know that some do, but I wanted to make sure that I had no homrones at all... and yes, if they doc is not careful there is a risk of perforation. Perhaps that is one reason that they dont like to give them to younger women (under 25) and those who have never had children.

Dunno... but I think it is the bestest thing ever... 1/2hour at the docs and it is good for 5yrs... and for the other reasons I stated above..

:)

Paragard is a Copper T380 (has a higher failure rate than DMPA), which uses copper arms and a copper stem, and is good for 10 years. It also, commonly, causes dysmenorrhea. I guess it's personal preference, but I don't know why you would choose an IUD over DMPA.

I wanted one with no hormones... none... i am well over 30yrs old, am a bit overweight and smoke... plus was on paxil for years... so, hormones were out of the question for me.

I work at a hospital, and I head to med school this fall. I guess if you couldn't handle hormones, DMPA would be out and IUD T380 would be a perfect choice, didn't really think about that.

Maybe you should just keep to dating responsible, mentally balanced girls.

Or maybe when you're both drunk and playing around, even a mentally balanced girl might just decide not to mention she missed a pill or two that month, if she really wants to get laid that night. And even when taken correctly, the pill isnt 100% effective. Then again, neither is the pill plus a condom. You might think the chances of both of them failing are really, really small, but it happens. And yes, I know someone it happened to... my parents, when they had me (I see it as one more instance of my being a determined bastard, even at an early age ;) ).

Both men and women aren't settled down at in early adulthood. Some women want to change that right away and arent overly picky about with who... and all they have to do is "forget" to take the pill once or twice. Personally, I'd rather not put control of it entirely in her hands until it is with a woman that I want to spend the rest of my life with, if in fact that ever happens. On the other hand, man cannot live on blowjobs alone. So, until then, I keep it wrapped up, and use another form of contraception that is mutually agreeable with my girlfriend (with the last one, it was the shot).
