Shawshank Redemption only made $25m in theaters =o

You didn't know that? The Oscars and rentals is what made that movie a classic.

I was only in 4th grade then. . .and just saw it within the past year. I was sure it was at least a top 10 film.

and the ultimate kick in the face for the $28 million box office draw was that it got mowed down by 'forrest gump' that year at the academy awards. as did pulp fiction which only took home 1 oscar out of the 7 it was nominated for.

go rentals/ppv/vhs & (eventual) dvd sales

Was one of the best book to movies i have read and seen. It is a Stephen King short story for those wondering.

Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.

The movie basically used the book as the script, but it developed the evil warden guy a bit more, which I think added to the story. Great job.

Huh, what a coincedence, I've seen the movie before, but I finally got around to buying a DVD of it earlier this week.

Interesting fact: The director explains in the commentary why they dropped "Rita Hayworth" from the movie title. Word got around about the movie title, not what it was about. Hundreds of actresses though it was a biopic on Rita Hayworth and tried to audition for the part or send in video tapes showing off their skills. One of them called up the producer saying "Oh, I've read the script, I love the development of Rita..." Which, of course, was blatant bull, apparently a common Hollywood trick is to say you've read the script, even if no one but the movie makers has a copy. They even got a tape of a transvestite who wanted to try out for the part of Rita.

Yeah, I heard it was because of the lack of women in the movie.

Damn women =/

Hah! You think that's bad? At least Shawshank was able to make that much. American History X only pulled in $6.7 million during its lifetime. It's a movie I think everyone should view at least once.
