I am in awe....upconverts look liek the real thing sometime..:Q

Speaking upconverts..any upconverting dvd players that use component? I was an early HD-TV guy and have no HDMI 🙁

Eh, I've read a good explanation of i/p that says that interlaced signals are better left interlaced as converting them to progressive just blurs the image. What is needed to make it good is a pulldown type algorithm and that's hard to do properly.

What makes you think it's an upconvert?

Viper GTS

my 1080p tv 😛

Think about this for a minute, why would they upconvert when they have film available?

Common sense, folks, they're not sitting there with FFDShow & a stack of DVD's.

Discussion of Showtime's HD presentation, including evidence that it is indeed a shiny new transfer

Do your research before you make stupid comments.

well yea u can convert to progressive for film encoded correctly, but i doubt most decoders would do it correctly at this point. plus non disc hd bitrate is low.

Go easy on him. He probably just didn't know the correct terminology so he used "upconvert". I bet meant to say "transfer".

I hope. 😛

Here is a nice post on a forum.

'Tis about transfers and HD.

Yep, it's a transfer. Shawshank was filmed on film. Therefore it is already high resolution. It can then be transfered to a HD video and broadcast. Most films can transfer very well if the orginal film is in good shape... no matter how old they are.

A perfect and beautiful example of this is the old TV show Hogan's Heroes which was shot on 35mm film instead of modern video tape. Makes for BEAUTIFUL HD transfers and can be seen in HD on HDnet.

In fact, Hogan's Heroes transfered so well you can see just how cheap the sets were made since no one figured TV at the time would show such detail.

1. i only saw the opening credits

2. i know the dif between upconmvrt and transfer...

3. i got pwned when I fired up the dvr this morning...yeah...fvking gorgeous transfer...

I was so exccited anjd committed a booboo

Hell yeah. I was watching Charlie's Angels the other day and it also transfers quite well.

It is amazing how well a lot of old media transfers. Some of it looks like it could have been flmed just a few years ago.

And Jaclyn Smith...wow. If I was back in the 70s right now, I would catch every friggin' episode of that show just for her. :Q
