I'm on Extreme-I for cable and we got a bump to 10/1 today for free. Hurray!

I think the standard users get 7/1 (former Extreme-I speeds) too, but I'm not sure.

Rogers here in London gave us Express users a free speed boost to 5/384 from 3/384.

I am considering Extreme.

How much do you pay for Shaw?

$35 canadian. bundle pricing.

It's cable, not DSL, right? Is it available in all Ontario (London)?

my mistake it's not 35. actually 43. but it's part of a bundle so I always remembered the equivalent price... anway it's cable. shaw is west only as far as I know

West to Thunderbay.

Its $43 via renting the modem, but if you buy it its $38.. and on a package deal with tv it works out to more like $28... also the extreme-I is an extra $10 a month so its $48/month CND for 10/1mbit with 100gigs alotted.

I've been raping newsgroups getting 1.2megabytes a second.. it owns.. a gigabyte of data takes 14 minutes! :D

Well extreme-I was originally 5/1 but several months ago it got upped to 7/1. Just a few months ago we got our monthly bandwidth "restriction" upped to 100 GB. This 10/1 thing is new for all shaw users (check out the dslreports.com forum for shaw).

shrug

Pull the power cord on your cable modem and then plug it back in. Then go to speakeasy.net and do one of their speed tests. 7/1 refers to the download/upload speed in megabits per second (Mbit/s or Mbps). Speakeasy will give it to you in kbits so you should be 7000/1000 (more realisitically around 6900/950 or so).

Apparently it is. And yeah the site hasn't been updated, but do a test after rebooting your modem and see.

They're not hard caps. They're 'guidelines' for appropriate use... and for some reason it doesn't count newsgroup downloads :)

They count, I've been caught for excessive bandwidth mainly from using Shaw's own news servers.

I had a month where I pulled 212 GB off of my giganews account, and shaw's stats have me at 60 GB for the month...
