I've just set up a router that gives both my computers access to the internet via Shaw Cable. It works pretty well so far, except I can no longer seem to reach the POP3 Mail server.

The address for the POP3 incoming and outgoing server entered in Outlook Express is just "shawmail", and it works when a computer is directly connected to the modem. When I have the router there, though, it says:

The host 'shawmail' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'shawmail', Server: 'shawmail', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

Is there any way around this? What could be causing the problem?

Ok, I've fixed the problem. I found out how to reset the router to default settings, where the DHCP server actually worked. It gave the computer a domain assignment (or something), which I didn't have with manual settings. No idea if that made any sense at all, but it's working :) thanks.

You can reconfigure your servername from shawmail to shawmail.ed.shawcable.net (Edmonton) or shawmail.cg.shawcable.net (Calgary) or insert the two letter combination that shaw uses in your city for the mail server.

try typing "tracert shawmail" when you are directly plugged into the modem into a command prompt to figure out your proper servername.
