Start with the grain and then finish up against if you feel the need.

What FrustratedUser said. Also, try the mach III Turbo. Its a much better blade than teh mach 3. Or if you can get them cheap, the m3power cartridges are better than the turbos.

ALso, it helps to moisen your face (~1-2 min) with hot water, and run the blade under very hot (~125 F) water.

Wrong.

Running the blade under such hot water will cause the blades to warp.

Umm, no. Blades warp under 770 F conditions.
I dunno about the lubristrip tho - those might warp a little. I only deal with blades afterall...

Every single barber, and so-called expert has recommended not using super hot water to rinse the blade. They always say warm to hot.

I dont know what to say about that advice. All I can say is that the temperature isnt hot enough to damage the blade in any way, or the coating of the blade. However, you could be very correct because the plastic holder, or the lubristrip, may not be able to handle very very hot water. Perhaps I should have said "120F" water since that is basically hot shower temperature.

All Im getting at is that for the tests i have done, it was shown that when very warm to hot water was used, shaving experience was better than if cold, somewhat warm water was used.

back. some parts of my face turned out MUCH smoother than my electric shaver has ever gotten, but some parts of my face are about the same as what i would have gotten with my elec shaver. I just have to work on technique, i suppose. But i did with the grain on my cheeks, then with on my neck. My neck needed some against action, so i gave it that. my jawbone has a little bit of razor burn, but its nothing i wont be able to correct next time i shave.

Who knows? Shaving seems to be surrounded by as many myths as truths.

Yup, in the end, do whatever it takes to get a nice, clean shave that doesnt result in giving you a face that looks like the surface of the moon. ;)

cmon people. doesnt *anyone* watch 'queer eye for the straight guy'. Shave after you shower and exfoliate before you shave. Always shave with the grain.

How about... no.
I get a smoother shave against the grain, so I can get away with a few days inbetween shaves.
Real men shave IN the shower, and exfoliating is what napalm is used for.
