Anyone play it? I played a couple years ago, just started up again. It's kind of old and outdated, but it's never really been replaced by any other game, nothing else is like it that I've ever seen.

The only thing you really lose as a free account is the chance to stay on the starter planet and gold weapons. Gold weapons wouldn't be the reason I'd pay, it'd be to stay on the starter planet. Level 1 on the starter world isn't as bad as when you first start on the next world, where people are waaaay ahead of you. You can survive, it's just a bit more difficult.

The game is a lot of fun though.

Yeah I played it. I like how many units there are available and the different stats of your character that affect army size/effectiveness.

Nice tactical game. Many armies coming together, other players joining and leaving on the fly to reinforce defense or offense.

The free game kept me interested until lvl 8 or 9 iirc. At that point being beaten by those paying to get beyond lvl 12 started to get old. I didn't think it was worth $10/month. The wife wouldn't have either.

I liked using those badass melee guys and the artillery units.

Those melee guys are insane once you get them with cloak. The arty is great too, I'm going to get some of those soon. I loved using them.

Almost as unstable as the World of Warcraft servers!

I beta tested the game back in the day and loved playing it. I picked it back up again for about 5 months early last year as well.

For those that haven't played, on the newbie planet the most units you can have on the field at one time is usually 6-8(depending on your stats).

Last night I obliterated 45 units in one blast, which is about 7 squads. Everyone in chat couldn't believe it and I was in shock. I think that'll be my online gaming event of the year for 2006.
