Sharpton Spanks the Monkey Cartoon

Oh crap, I think that the artist has been misinterpreted. Unfortunately there are many people out there that don't see that there is usually more than one way to interpret something.

The page says it was a NY POST cartoon, did it also print in the Times?. The POST is a trash rag on the same level as faux news. I wouldn't think the Times would run that sort of thing.

Sorry, that was my mistake. It was the NY Post, not the NYT

It may have a racial interpretation, but I think Sharpton was being disengenuous by calling it a "civil rights" issue. Considering recent events, I can see why a chimp would end up in a political cartoon. C'mon. Congress....drunken monkeys... who here hasn't made that comparison at one time or another...

Besides, if a political cartoon doesn't offend somebody, your doing it wrong.

Personally I am offended for the chimps. How dare they take such an intelligent animal and compare it to the lowest of our society.. the dems.. 🙂

Wasn't GWB compared to a chimp many times?

That was ok. He was a repug. Dems are the good guys who can never be criticized as they mean well for all of us. Even if we do not realize it.

As for the cartoon, meh, no big deal.

Obama didn't write the stimulus bill, he only signed it. This means the cartoon is saying monkeys wrote the bill, but it is not comparing Obama to a monkey. Al is a broken record, everything is racism to him.

While I agree on the facts you present, they were idiots to publish the cartoon. If I was reading the cartoons casually and came upon that caption I probably would of thought how it's a little racist. I know it's intended statement, but it's very open to interpretation. While I disagree with almost all of Sharpton's crusades, this cartoon probably shouldn't of been published.

I see what you did there 🙂

Who had to sign the bill to make it law?

Agreed in this cartoon, Congress is/are the monkey(s).

More offensive to the woman who got mauled by the chimp. Sharpton needs to shut the fuck up. We have a black guy as President now. All the whining about the black man being held down by the white man should have ended on 11/4/2008. Obama makes Al obsolete.

Joe Blow on the street doesn't understand how the bill was concocted hence they think this is aimed @ obama when it is actually aimed @ obey, pelosi, and reid -- damn monekees.
BTW, it is still in poor taste -- I'd rather not see a picture of a monkey bleeding to death on a parking lot >_>

WE all have opinions, but there is no way any other message can derived from that cartoon but Obama being the monkey. Its disingeuis for anyone to say that upon reading that cartoon with the Stimulus comment that they did not think of Obama. Come on, let's keep it real

 Only those who are overly sensitive and/or embrace the victim mentality lept to that sort of asinine conclusion. I saw it before reading about Sharpton's headuphisass wailings and BHO was not who I thought of. Obviously anyone paying attention knows it's about congress - not BHO. Anyway, no matter who you think the chimp was - it's still quite a good comic as it mixes two current events that are all over the news. Racism had NOTHING to do with it.

Bullshit.

Sharpton is just getting his yearly face-time.

I doubt this is the last we will hear of faux-outrage over questionable racism regarding this president though.
