i'm using a radeon 7200 to provide video out to my tv, which is a 27" sony wega (not HD, just regular tv). my problem is that the text is quite quite fuzzy, to the point where if i wasn't as familiar with windows menus, settings, etc, i would be struggling to set anything up.

anyways, the question is, how can i make the text/screen sharper? is there any way? i downloaded the latest ATI radeon drivers, and used the display setup. so right now my resolution is 800x600 (anything larger and the screen "scrolls"), and i'm using the ATI option for the "sharpest" text. it helped some, but it is still quite fuzzy. any suggestions??? thanks

Text is ALWAYS blurry. How should the TV signal standard, with its measly 5 MHz bandwidth, match up even remotely with a normal computer monitor's 200-MHz-ish bandwidth?
To add to that, the signal isn't separate red, green, blue, but (SVideo) just two signals, color-mix and brightness. In case of Composite, it's all on one wire.

Besides, non-HD TV tubes and LCD panels hardly ever have a higher resolution than 640x480, 840x480 if they're widescreen. It's interlaced, so the actual, useful vertical resolution is half that. Horizontally, thanks to the color/brightness intermangling, the actual resolution for truly distinguishable pixels is about 360.

So, step back to 360x240 resolution, and your text shall be crisp and clear. Otherwise, use a larger font.

Didn't know, that's why I asked. So then the question is.. before the ATI drivers, the lowest setting I could select was 640x480. Now with the ATI drivers the lowest is 800x600. How would I adjust the setup so I can select 360x240 resolution?

Would upgrading from the Radeon 7200 to a Radeon 9250 make any difference in setup configuration flexibility/options? Also, any quality difference in terms of watching MPEG TV or VCD?

Use Svideo for best quality, and force 640x480 resolution (Google for instructions) - then text will be "okay". Movie watching will be just fine regardless.

The adapter tab on the advanced display properties (list all modes) will allow you to pick 640x480.

Video should look pretty good, Radeon 7200 s-video output will be appx as good as any Radeon. Text will never be great using s-video or composite (RCA) output.
