**Sharper Image filed a Disparagement Lawsuit agaist Consumer Reports**
Consumer Reports filed motion to strike under CA Anti-Slapp statute

I've been reading Consumer Reports for some time now & noticed that they did two seperate magazine reviews in the past on Air Purifiers/Cleaners. The first time I read the review last year I believe, I noticed that they said the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze was "Innaffective" & was last in all other Filter type Purifiers.
The second review about a year later they stated that Sharper Image contacted them stating they were sort've unfair & that Consumer Reports did'nt test thier units properly. Well, Consumer Reports rolled out the same test but broader, with a wide range of other Air Purifiers............... Result? Dead Last again **LOL**

Well I just recieved my new Consumer Reports tonight & was reading how Sharper Image took Consumer Reports to court on this issue of testing Blah Blah Blah.... (Go read for yourself / Jan. 2005)
To make a long story short, Consumer Reports won the legal Battle & was also reimbursed all legal fees & expenses incurred in it's defense.

Makes me feel good because I knew that those Ionic Breeze purifires did nothing. I believe the black stuff you see them wiping of the plates (on the commercials) is OXIDATION !

I bought one this year just before allergy season. Unlike the previous 2-3 years, I kept my windows closed and the Ionic breeze on. My room smelled fresh, and I had no allergy issues whatsoever. As far as I am concerned, it did the job. And yes, I bought it because it is silent and compact.

Snake oil.

I'm surprised so many people fall for it.

Hell, almost everything Sharper Image sells is highly overpriced junk. Why should this be any different?

Yes, but the commercials state that they remove odor, dust & dander etc. BS!

Consumer reports in an unbiased reviewer. You should see how they tested the units. Even the cheapest of cheap Air Purifiers removed more odor & dust than the $300.00+ Ionic Breeze. They even let the Ionic Breeze run twice as long as the other air purifiers & still did no good.

They work well for an EXTREMELY EXTREMELY small room... we're talking closet sized.

Unfortunately, it just can't move enough air to be effective in a normal living environment.

exactly. it's the same with the "living air classic" they sell on the radio (for $700). They basically just pump ozone/charged ions into the room which makes all the dust sticky. It cleans the air fine, but if you're not into cleaning/dusting your house it might just make everything disgusting.

consumer reports rocks... sharper image sells crap for 300% markup

Apex ----- Consumer Report's did thier test in a cabinet sized enclosure. Explain to me why the unit failed in all thier testing among 15-20 other units?
It did'nt just fail, it was "UNEFFECTIVE" at anything & placed dead last in all tests.

From what I've used (only played around with very very very short time), it did seem effective in tiny spaces. This being said, the volume and rate of air circulation with it is absolutely miniscule.

Comparing the SI product with a normal cheap air filter is almost like comparing a regularly sized heatsink vs a heatsink + fan setup. Sure, the heatsink does improve things over no cooling at all, but the effectiveness is extremely limited.

My personal favorite is the IQAir Gas Control Series. It's what I use at home. It's a bit more costly than some, but it works great.

That and some of the stuff they sell are pretty much re-labeled sub-standard electronics that are Made in China (no offense). In any case, I know (and own) some "Made in China" electronics that are better than the ones sold in The Sharper Image.

I knew the Ionic Breeze was just hot air... or however the saying goes.

I'll stick to my 2x Foam Filtered air purifier. that costs me $100.00 (filters) + a year & does the job perfectly.

*Bagless Vacumes cleaners are all the rage but still don't pick up as well as bagged models. I know it's a diff. subject but damn, some of you people are blind & deaf on how to find & read ratings proper!
Those of you that go to Epinions & the like, are reading the ratings of other dumb people that don't know how to use the product in the first place.

reminds me of those old tales where a man would pull up to a gas station, put two pills into his gas tank fill it full of water (which is free at gas stations, and ask the old timers on the bench if they'd like to buy some of the gasoline pills. then he'd drive over the hill empty the water from the tank (two tanks, one with water wasn't used...obviously) drive to the next gas station and do it again to the next schmucks.

or the one where a guy starts a pecan tasting competion on the radio, he had everyone send him 1 lb. of pecans, and whoever had the best tasteing pecans would win $100 (which he happily paid the winner). he filled up a silo with free pecans and re-sold them at market value ;)
