i'm still only doing 100lbs. my shoulders no longer hurt when i do squats.

but today, there was a sharp pain on the left side of my groin when i went down during the squat. as if keys were wedged between my pants pocket and groin area. but it wasnt since my keys were in my right pocket.

i stopped and left the gym for the day.

b4 doing squats, i did a whole bunch of abdominal excercises, especially scissor/flutter kicks.

i'm thinking i overdid the abdominals, and just need to rest a bit?

Heavy compound movements should be done prior to isolation exercises.

Do you warm up before your workouts? Even if you did ab exercises, you still have to warm up your legs and such separately. Make sure you do that since warm ups are vital to your workout and in avoiding injuries.

Does it hurt when you stretch and do a butterfly?

If it does, it is just the muscle locking up.

before doing legs, hop on the bike real quick and do level 15 for 1 minute then do squats or leg press. It gets the blood flowing.

I wouldn't do abs before legs.

If you didn't say you were doing ab stuff beforehand, I'd almost venture to think you're on the verge of a hernia.

Stretch your hip flexors. Deep (unweighted) lunges always help me when mine get tight, and that only really happens while squatting heavy. Lean back just a but while doing the lunge, you'll feel the stretch pretty much exactly where you described.

At what point in your squat does the pain occur? It could just be a muscle is sore. I had this once after doing side lunges and it has since went away. But I also felt it while doing squats once I got all the way down and started pushing back up. It also sounds like it could be the start of a gradual process hernia. Are there any other activities where it acts up? You can feel around the area where it hurts and see i there is a lump or anything. And also if pain comes from lifting or anything else that causes pressure in your groin area. If you've got health insurance it's worth seeing a Dr. rather determine sooner then have it pop out later.
