I have the chance to buy this for $90 with my remaining Value Dollars. At this price, I think I'm going to buy it anyway, negative opinions or not, but I'd like to hear how current owners feel about it. I know the size may be a sticking point, as well as the design, but it has good battery life, the nice slot-load, and a jog dial. So the plusses outweight the minuses :).

Have at it!

I love it. Design is a love-it or hate-it issue. I think it looks cool, kind of "industrial" like RoboCop.

Slot load makes is very sturdy (although a little thicker and heavier than some of the clamshell models).

Battery life is excellent (It includes a rechargable Li Ion battery plus a AA battery pack you can attach for even more battery life).

Personally I like the remote best. It's backlit with a blue light and you can control the player completely with it. It's got a spring clip and can be clipped to whatever's convenient. The headphones plug into it, or you can scrap the remote and plug the headphones directly into the body.

I haven't ever tried analog recording. I have an SB Live with the optical addon card so all I have done is digital recording, which sounds great. I can't tell the difference from CDs. You can make the music LOUD w/o distortion (heck the included headphones aren't too shabby either).

Jog wheel is cool for titling and track switching, but I have heard of people wearing it out by doing too much titling with it.

If you have any other questions, let me know. I think $90 is a great price. I paid $150 after rebate about six months ago.

P.S. The only thing I hate about it is the little carry-strap, which is rainbow colored. Now, maybe that's cool in Japan, but it looks kind of gay IMHO.

What kind of skip protection d those minidisc players have? The reason I ask is I want something to listen to while snowboarding. I have a cassette player but not many cassetes and NO stereo to make any from cds. My cd player has adequate skip protection but the batteries don't last long. Mp3 players sound good but expensive for how much songs you can hold. That leaves mini discs. So can they withstand bumps and the like?
