I've been bowled over with the quality and quickness of posts on these forums. I have also been told that Sharky Extreme is a very good site, that is similar to this one. What do you all think about that site, as compared to this one? What do you use it for, if at all, as compared to Anandtech?

Is there another hardware review site and message forum other than AnandTech? ;)

Sharky is a sellout puppet of who ever pays him the most. So many people are playing him that he must have at least 3 hands up his rear at any given time.

I love Sharky's thinly veiled jabs at AMD. That dude is such an Intel whore it's sick. You might as well read zdnet. The guy actually came buy our office when I worked at Fox Interactive. Boy I wanted to give him five across the eyes.

LMAO, that's true. Of course, Anand's been known to make some pretty big reviews himself. You gotta love the history page they give for EVERY SINGLE review. I mean, jeez louise, how many times do I have to hear how Abit started off unstable yadda yadda, then improved, then did this and that. Just gimme the benchmarks and conclusion danged. The good thing about Anand's though is that you can skip pages. Stupid Sharkey reviews make you click through EVERY damned page.

Amen, and Halleluia Brother!!!

Anand is good. Sharky sucks. Sharky never says anything worthwile, imho. And his site is impossible to navigate. I generally trust HardOCP and Anand for their reviews. They are much less bought and paid for than Sharky and Tom.

Sharky's forums are interesting at times. I do like their Highly Technical PC Forum though. There are some very bright guys there.

I can't stand that they feel the need to "quote" the previous persons entire post, when replying to a point.

I am actually not a fan of sharky's ever since they were purchased by the Internet.com folks. I do like other sites tho - like Ace's Hardware. I think that Tom's Hardware does some really, really good articles that are very indepth as well and very much well worth reading.

I would recommend either Dr.Dobbs or Ace's Hardware for CPU reviews. They are usually more technical and in depth that most other sites - including this one.

for unbiased test results... ANANDTECH by far. People accuse anandtech of pandering from companies like Intel, but just compare the reviews to other sites. If it were me and I were buying any type of hardware product I would check out anandtech and would not even consider sharky extreme.

Sharky is good for weekly CPU prices, and mabey an interview or two thats it.
Toms Hardware is undoubtably more thorough on new technologies (see Pentium 4, and GeForce3 reviews), yet does not really do a great job on individual products (motherboards in particular). Anandtech on the other hand, does a brilliant job on individual products, yet not as complete on newer technologies, which for some is good, and for some, not as good. That said, Tom's, and Anandtech are the only two sites worth my time.

Sharky's isn't bad. Whatever you do, don't go to HardOCP. That's an absolutely worthless site. No reviews and a bunch of kids swearing in the forums! JMHO :)

Anandtech, I like the comprehensive and unbiased point of view this site offers.

Places I like to visit...

1. Anand is good for general info.
2. Amdzone is good for...hmm guess what, hehe. The guy that runs it is a zealot but at least he doesn't hide it. Plus the forums over there were on the ball about the AMD boards (issues from kx133 and on was when I followed them)a good month before they're dissected over here.
3. Storagereview.com...bar non the best storage site. Their forums have the highest concentration of bright people IMHO. Nef posts aren't as frequent there and most of the discussion that goes on about hardware is VERY indepth. When tech issues are brought up you'll rarely see posts like "IBM rulez" or "my MSI board is solid" like a lot of the useless crap you'll often find here (which I've been guilty of).
4. 3dsoundsurge for computer audio.
5. Overclockers.com and Kyle's site cause their perspective is VERY refreshing. In fact it's overclockers.com's credo of prudence in regards to computer upgrades that has kept me hanging on to this tired old k7pro/600@800 classic.

:)
