I currently have an xbox one with 2 years of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. I rarely use my xbox since I prefer my PC. I have a new Xbox one S arriving this week I'm going to keep and I will give the old xbox to my nephew who loves to come over and play. What's the best way to share my Xbox Game Pass Ultimate sub on both consoles? I still want him to have his own microsoft account and live gold account but in the meantime I would like to share my Xbox Game Pass Ultimate account with him since I have a ton of games just sitting there not being used.

The Xbox that you designate as the "Home" xbox will have access to all the subscriptions whether you are signed in or not. The 2nd xbox will have access to your subscriptions only when you are signed in. So you should designate the Xbox that you are giving to your nephew as the home xbox so that you won't need to be signed into it, he will sign in with his own account.

Thanks. So I leave my old xbox set up the way it is with my username and microsoft game pass ultimate account and keep it set as my home xbox. The part I'm confused about is if it's ok for him to set up his own username and microsoft account (w/ live gold perhaps) on that console and if so which does he select if he wants to play my games. I assume my account.

I'm also confused on how to set up my new console. Do first log in my account and then log in with his account and set it up as his home xbox? If I want to play my games do I just log into my account and I'll be good to go? Can we both be logged in on my account an play games at the same time or play one of my games together as log as it's digital?

Whichever Xbox you're giving to your nephew would need to be the one that is your account's Home Xbox, in order for him to have access to the content on your account (including Live Gold). Your nephew can create his own account and use it to play anything that's been installed and is associated with your account on that Home console. If he were to login with his account on a console that isn't your account's Home console, he would only have access to any content/subscriptions that are associated with his account alone.

To my understanding, if the Xbox that is set as your "Home" console has active Live Gold, any Xbox Live account that signs in on it will have shared access to all the content. For example, before I bought my own Xbox One, I logged into my roommate's with my Live account and I was able to play any of the games he had installed. That's why quikah recommended you give your nephew the Home console linked with your account - so he could have access to all of the content that's associated with your account, which you'll have access to by virtue of logging in with your account, no matter what console you're logging in on.

If you already have an Xbox Live account, the easiest way is to login with your account on whichever Xbox you're wanting to give to your nephew, and designate it as your Home console. The link that quikah shared has instructions on how to do so mid-way through the page, under "Designate an Xbox One console as your home Xbox." After you've done that, he can login with his account and access any content/subscription stuff associated with your account on that Home Xbox.

I'm not 100% on whether you'd be able to play the same game on two different consoles at the same time. If imagine that it wouldn't work and would either boot the non-account owner once the account owner launches the game or it would give a message/error that the content is currently in use, or something like that. You can definitely both play at the same time on the same console... Just uncertain of how things shake out with multiple consoles at the same time. Perhaps quikah has some insight on this.

I know all this can be a little confusing when you're first delving into it - I know it was for me. Good luck everything configured to your liking!

Thank you both for your help. I think things are starting to make a little more sense between what you've written and watching a few youtube videos. If what I'm hearing is correct it looks like we both can play a game at the same time. It also appears that one of the downfalls is I can't play one of my digital games if my console is offline. That's not too big a deal since I prefer PC and many games need a connection anyways.

I'll link to two of the better videos I found. The 2nd one has an important setting (3:07) you should change for security reasons (ask for passkey or lock it down). I also think I may need to set up his account to login automatically on the console I'm giving him.
