Sharing wired internet connection to iPhone (thru Wifi)

I'm here in a hotel room, they have free in-room broadband internet (wired via ethernet) which is great. I would like to connect an iphone 3G thru wireless to my laptop so that it can go online thru the wired connection.

I followed the instructions here: http://www.iphone.org.hk/cgi-b....cgi?id=2600&h=1#12720

I am having trouble getting the iphone and the laptop to connect wirelessly. The iphone cannot detect my ad-hoc wifi connection on the laptop. Is there a trick to doing this?

Thanks in advance!

What kind of laptop is it?
Have you ever gotten this sort of thing to work in the past?
What OS are you running?

Lenovo S10e, Windows XP Home Edition SP3.

This is the first time I've tried networking an iPhone with my laptop..

Which is exactly what the link he put up there tells one to use.

Unfortunately, my only experience with ICS led to the exact same spot that you are in, one of frustration.

It wasn't until I got my MacBook that I finally got it to work... in OS X. Which unfortunately does you no good.

Yea.. Windows ICS is awful from my experience. They seem to finally be rectifying this with Windows 7, but that, again.. doesn't help at all.. 🙁

Yep...unfortunately ICS seems to be prone to the whims and fancies of an extra-spiritual body 😉
Sorry mate.

The trouble seems to be getting the laptop and iphone to connect to each other via wifi. I don't think I've even gotten to the ICS part! (Have I?)

Anyway, thanks guys for chiming in 🙂

Have you tried asking in the Windows forum? I think this might be more of an issue on that side, than with the iPhone? Could be wrong though.
