Sharing Verizon Wireless Connection @ Home.

Before commiting to a contract with Verizon, I wanted to get a few questions answered. I am in the Phoenix market, I have spoken to a rep today...here is what I know:

1.) You don't have to have a wireless phone through them to sign up for wireless interent

2.) Speeds are between 600-800k on average

3.) Costs are 59.99 and 79.99 a month for 1 - 2 years

4.) They don't officially support home networks

Can anyone point me in the right direction so I can determine exactly what hardware and software configurations I will need to share my Verizon Wireless Connection to more then 1 PC. I am aware of ICS but I am concerned that due to the proprietary verizon hardware and software it may not work? Do they sell routers that you can pop in a PCMCIA card into?

i have used a sprint card in a desktop running XP with a PCMCIA slot and ICS to share internet access in my house

at work, we have tested a few routers that have PCMCIA slots with verizon and some other wireless. these routers may not be generally available, i'll have to ask the guy in our group for the names of them

1. You will need a external modem that will work with verizon. If you don't know what is compatible I recommend you either buy or rent one from verizon.

2. You will also need a router. Hook up each computer that you want to connnect to the verizon account to the router. If you have a laptop and want to go wireless, get a wireless-g router.

3. You will need a NIC (network interface card) for each computer that you want to hook up to the router. If you are going wireless you will need a pcmcia wireless card for the laptop if it does not have built in wireless.

4. You will need a CAT-5 cable to connect each NIC to the router.

5. You will need to set up a windows (I presume XP Home) network. Google it.

6. Once you have the network set up and communicating with the router you can use any browser - such as MS's Internet Explorer.

7. Find a friend knowledgable in computers to help you. It's really pretty easy but can be very daunting on a first attempt.

8. If you go wireless, don't forget to set up WEP for security or everyone in your neighborhood can use your access point (only limited by distance).

9. A advantage of this system is that you are also creating a home network and your computers can also communicate with each other besides using the broadband connection.

Good luck

Well let me clarify I know how to set up a wired/wireless network, but my question is will the VERIZON connection work just like any internet connection in WINDOWS? I will be able to share it for sure? Someone with personal experiance please resond.

man that's expensive for some slow internet. Why are you pondering Verizon's service for home use?

I'm assuming you don't have the option to go dsl or cable?

I have cable, looking for anywhere I go Internet for my laptop, would like to share it though with other lappys in the house. May turn off cable, I played CS on it and it's decent enough. 150ping.
