Sharing Telocity DSL Connection

Good news, I got my DSL modem hooked up finally! Unfortunately, I'd like to share the connection, but I'm not quite sure how to go about it. I just used the Windows Internet Connection Sharing software to share my 56k modem, but I can't seem to get that to work with DSL. I'd like to be able to do this for free, but if I have to go out and buy a router, that's also an option. So, is there any way to share a DSL connection using free software?

I assume you're connected through a hub or switch right now. Usually, when you network DSL, the provider will give you several IP addresses so you can network computers without any additional software. Try to release and renew the adapter in winipcfg on the second computer, then go to the log in page if there is one.

If that doesn't work, I advise reading telocity's support pages or calling them to see if they will support it. If they will only give you one IP address, you will need a router.

Also, you will need to have your network connected this way:
DSL Router ---> Uplink or 5th port in the hub/switch
Computers ---> 1st and 2nd ports of the hub/switch

Good luck!

not sure I completely agree with you on needing a router. ICS will give each computer attached to the computer running ICS a specific IP address, not the ISP. Meaning Telocity only provides one IP address. Something tells me that somewhere your ICS is not configured correctly.

I have Telocity for over a year now.
The easiest way to share it is router. I am using Linksys - got it set in 10 minutes.
ICS should work, but you will need 2 NICs (I assume modem goes to Ethrenet, not USB).
Also, you may need W2Kpro for ICS (I am not sure about 98SE or ME) on your base computer.
Just get a router: You can get SMC router as low as $50 after rebate.

Thyme Telocity gives only one static IP.

BTW, new Telocity modem has build in router, you just need a password to get it configured.

jblondi, I should have said either a router or 2 NICs.

Windows 98SE has ICS I think.
