I am currently getting my internet via a wireless network feeding from a friend of mine's router. I am also wanting to link my computers up in a gigabit network to pool my computers together for when I need them all to share a single purpose. (video rendering)

However, my delima is that I can get both networks to work together.. but I can't get them to have separate file sharing settings. I want my computers on the giga network to share.. but I don't want to share on the wireless network. Is this possible?

Thanks
Jared

Hi,

I'm using winXP so I'll presume you are too. I don't know for sure - but if you have two network devices (say gigabit NIC and wireless NIC) each connection will have seperate clients, services and protocols assigned. The end result is (I hope) that you can uninstall microsoft file and print sharing from the wireless network connection without affecting the gigabit network connection.

There is the possibility that flie and print sharing is a special case and that uninstalling it from one connection will also remove it from the other - but hopefully this is not so.

Good luck,

Andy

Yes, you can uncheck the box next to "File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks" on the wireless LAN. That will enable sharing for the wired, but not the wireless. I hope you want to have NO sharing on the wireless, and not just "different" folders shared.
