I recently found the need to go from a 300W to ~ 450W Power Supply (I had the Seasonic SS-300SFD). I did a lot of research on what power supplies were recommended for this wattage and price range (I was looking at ~ $50). For folks' reference, I'm going to post a list of what I found were the recommended PSUs and their prices. List is in no particular order. Also, these are all wired-units; I did not look at modular ones.

I hope that people looking for a power supply in the 450 Watt space find this helpful.

Prices I quote are prior to any rebate/coupons that were offered; and if there were lower prices, you can see my parenthetical comment. It seems like on any given week/time I've seen slews of discount deals on all these PSUs [I was only searching for a couple weeks].

Rosewill, Capstone 450 Watt, ~ $65 - Highest rated PSU I looked at didn't want to pay the ~ $15 premium to get it but was very tempted. If you aren't as budget limited as me get this one.
Antec, Earthwatts EA-380D ~ $45
Antec, Earthwatts EA-430D ~ $65
Antec, VP-450 ~ $40
Antec, Neo Eco 400C ~ $50 (occasionally $40 AR, I know this one drops lower)
Antec, Neo Eco 450C ~ $60 (listed because on sale for $40 without rebate iirc)
PC Power & Cooling 400W ~ $70 (listed because on sale for $50 with rebate)
Seasonic, S12-II 380B ~ $55
Seasonic, M12-II 520W ~ $80 (listed because it went on sale for $60 with rebate)
Seasonic, S12-II 430B ~ $60 (was on sale for $55 with coupon code)
XFX ProSeries, 450W ~ $50 (was on sale for $40 and $45 with rebates)
Corsair, CX430v2 ~ $45 (seems like it goes down to $25 or so after rebates every month).

I will say after installing the one I bought into my mATX case I appreciated the shorter cables on the unit I had.

pcp&c mk iii 400w which is a modular unit is currently $35 when counting the gift card and the rebate

You beat me to that one! It was as low as $25 AR a few days ago ($60 before rebate price, newegg raised it) I am kicking myself for buying only one, the rebate allows 3 per person :(

The Antec HCG 400W has been $20 AR, but it is a hefty $40 rebate and Antec isn't exactly known for the speed of the rebates.

The CX430 v2 is routinely ~$20 AR, and the best part is that corsair rebates handled by Parago are very fast (~4 weeks)

I am of the idea that buying a decent PSU in that wattage range for a good price is much easier than it was before

I guess your case didn't require the PSU to be SFX?

Here are my recollections of the lowest price (in parenthesis) that I've seen.

Rosewill, Capstone 450 Watt, ~ $65 ($52)
Antec, Neo Eco 400C ~ $50 ($20)
Corsair, CX430v2 ~ $45 ($16)
