Sharing Internet connection with Win2k & Win98

I current have a Win2k server running as a domain controller with access to the internet via cable modem. I have internet connection sharing enabled on my NIC. My Win2K Pro client can access the internet perfectly. No problems whatsoever. My win 98 box is not getting DNS. I can browse via IP but cannot get any domain names resolved. GettingIPaddress, etc. Any Ideas?

On the w2k box did you specify the correct DNS nameservers? ICS will assign your win98 box the nameservers that your w2k machine is using.

Hi, I am using Win 2k and Win 98 like your setting and I don't have any problem with DNS server, in fact I leave that DNS setting blank. Did you check the enable connection sharing? I am using dial up modem and I check that setting on the dial up properties under the sharing tab. I don't know how to set it up under the cable but check this Link and see if it can help you. Good luck

Check win98 settings with winipcfg.exe and see if it's picking up a DNS IP. If it is, see if it can ping it. See if it can ping an internet site (that responds to pings) by domain name. Check browser settings. Check firewall settings.

Win98 box is not getting any DNS server under winipcfg. I do have internet connection sharing enabled. My win2kpro box surfs the internet OK whe logged on to local machine but not when it is logging into domain. I probably need to make a DNS change within DHCP setting on the server.
