Sharing internet between two houses. Why isn't it working?

Main House:

Cable Modem -> D-Link Wireless Router (DHCP, security off) -> Hawking 7dB Omnidirectional Antenna mounted outside

Second House:

Linksys WET54G Wireless Bridge (DHCP, security off) -> cat5 -> Internet port of Netgear Router (DHCP, security off)

When a computer is plugged into the Netgear router in the second house it doesn't get internet. It IS possible to log into the D-Link router in the main house from the second house though, through the Netgear Router / Linksys Bridge combo.

Any ideas?

Who is your ISP? I'd start by checking the Terms of Service from your ISP to see if it is legal for you to share the internet between two houses. If it is (which it probably is not), come back here and maybe someone will help you troubleshoot.

As seepy said, you really should check to see that this is allowed by your ISP. Most ISP contracts specifically prohibit sharing the connection between residences.

However, since you're a fellow camera nut, I'll give you some basic troubleshooting for now. 😉

Disable DHCP on the Netgear router in the second house and connect one of its LAN ports (NOT the Internet/WAN port) to the wireless bridge. This will make all computers in both houses use the DHCP (IP, DNS, and Gateway) settings of the D-Link in the first house. Assuming computers in the first house can access the Internet, and the Linksys access point is connecting to the D-Link, then computers in the second house should be able to access the Internet as well.
