Sharing folders on Vista problem

Ok sa basically i can't seem to figure out how to share files from their original location on my network ni matter what i do. Mt main PC has Vista 64 and my laptop has Vista 32. I can share files between both machines but they have to be in one of the "Public" folder or otherwise it won't work. If i go to properties , advanced sharing and activate the "Share this folder" option then i can see the folder on the network but i just can't access it , even if i give full priorities/permissions. I have tried some suggestions i found on google but nothing seems to works (changing the path ect). It seem that the the only is to use the "Public" folders which is a pain in the ass since i have 4 partitions and i don't really feel like copying and paste 45 gigs on my C:. I don't even have the space anyway since i only allowed the mnimum space for Windows.

So , am i missing something or is this the way it is ?
