so like I said, I just brought myself a laptop. Can you guys tell me how I can transfer my desktop files to my new laptop? My desktop already has a network card. So I plugged one end of the CAT 5 cable to the card, and the other end to the laptop. Now what?? Do'nt I go to network neighborhood or soemthing? If so, what do I do? the desktop is under win98, the laptop is under winXP.......

anybody have step by step instructions??

You need to use a crossover CAT5 cable if you want to hook them directly up.
Do you have a network set up? If you do, just hook em both up, and right click on the "C:" Drive (in the desktop) and click properties, and select the "Sharing" tab. I'm not sure what it is on Win98, but it should be similar. Then just go to Network Neighborhood on the laptop and the "C:" drive from the desktop will be there. Hope this helps:)

btw, wrong forum.
