I'm planning on building a new computer very soon and need some help with having it share my Roadrunner connection with another computer. My old computer and the cable connection are in one room and I plan to run a cable through the ceiling into the room with the new computer then drop it down inside the wall to connect to the new comp. My question is what should I use to share the connection out of the modem? Will a simple hub work or will I need a router? I just want both computers to have a fast internet connection and preferably be able to have both connected at the same time. Anyone have suggestions on what I should use to do this?

If you are issued two IPs by the cable company then a hub would work. More than likely, though, you are only issued one IP. If you only have one IP you will need either a router or install two network cards in one of the computers and use it as a router. I would reccommend a stand alone router because if you put two NICs in one computer, that computer has to always be turned on for the other to have internet access.
