Sharing a USB printer between a MAC and PC.

My mother just got a Dell Dimension 2400 to do work at home and she already has a G4 Imac. I bought her a Netgear router to share the cable modem and she has an HP USB printer. The computers are on different floors of the house and she doesnt want to buy another printer and keep having to buy ink for 2. She really doesnt print or use either computer very often. Is there any way to share the printer between the MAC running OS 9.* and the PC running XP home? I don't feel like buying a print server or spending any money on this really.

You can share the printer on the PC and the Mac should be able to print to it. I know this works fine with OSX.

I have been looking around OS9 and see no way to do it. Anyone know for sure?
