I saw this item on TV that was being advertised that would allow your phoneline to remail operational WHILE using the internet on a 56k modem. You wouldnt have to ever worry about being kicked off line OR missing a phone call as now you could do both with this hub or switch type of device. As I said it was being advertised on TV and I cant find it if you know what im talking about or know of something similiar please let me know. The items was being advertised for around 20 bux

The device you are refering to allows you to receive incoming calls while on the net. It does this by listening for the call waiting signal thats generated when someone dials your phone number. When it detects the signal it makes any phone that is attahced to the device ring. If you pick up the phone you will be disconnected from the internet so you can actually talk on the phone. When done using the phone you will have to re-connect. It does not let you do both at the time same 😀

Hope this clears everything up...

Oh, BTW. I have one of these boxes. Specifically I have the Emerson Switchboard. It does work. When the phone rings the corded phone I have plugged into it rings and the attahced CallerID unit will show who is calling after about 2 rings, if I pick up my modem connection instantly drops and I can talk on the phone. I bought mine at my local Wal-Mart about 2 months ago.

Actually, a v.92 modem allows you to do this. The software runs on the computer, and when call-waiting kicks in, you can tell it to put your Internet connection on hold ("modem-on-hold" is the name of the technology) while you answer the call. When done, you hang up, click the continue button, and your connection is back. Most ISPs are upgrading to v.92 at least slowly, if not right away.

The only thing is most ISPs only allow 3 minutes or less of modem-on-hold time. If you go past this your connection drops 🙁
