shared web hosting question

imagine if you would 3 websites hosted on a shared server. one site leaves and goes to a new host and registrar.

now neither of the other two can send email to the departed domain. both can receive email fine, and the sent emails do not bounce, but they never get to the departed domain.

what could cause this? MX record mixup? other than this email problem, all domains seem to be working fine...

mystified...
