shared pci slot

My sound card locked up on me the other day. It was stuck on 2 speakers while I have a 4 speaker system. I reloaded the drivers and moved the card to another pci slot and it works now. However my Asus motherboard manual lists the pci slot I moved it to as "shared." Does this matter? Will it limit the bandwidth of my soundcard, or should I move the card back to the original slot?

If it works, don't "fix" it. A soundcard is hardly a bandwidth hog. If you don't have problems with the current setup (seems you had them with your previous setup, why go back to a problem setup?) leave it alone. Also, what is shared? With another PCI slot? With onboard peripherals? It may be nothiong else is set to use the same resources.

sounds like it could be power supply related.

My system locked the sound sometimes until I upgraded my psu.

I think "shared" refers to another pci slot. I think I'll take your advice about not fixing something that's not broke though and leave it as is. I'm prone to tinker with my pc to the point where I get more greif than benefit :)

You could be right about the power supply. When I originally built the system I ordered an Enermax but they were out and I ended up with one I'd never heard of, "Sunny" or something like that.

PCI slots have 4 interrupts only, one is for the agp slot

now if you have more than 3 pci slots + agp one of those interrupts is used over.

On my TUV4X I get:

Interrupt A AGP, PCI4
Interrupt B PCI1, PCI5
Interrupt C PCI2, PCI6
Interrupt D PCI3

Plus some are shared with usb and other things.

If you are talking shared as in a ISA/PCI slot are physically next to each other that is a different matter.
