shared folders showing up in The Internet, instead of Local Network

I have tried once before to get help with this problem -- but will try again.

I can share folders between all of the computers on my LAN. The problem is that when I open My Network Places, the shared folders show in The Internet grouping, not in Local Network as they should. I have found several postings on net by people with this same problem, but unfortunately no solution. I have recreated the LAN without getting rid of the problem.

The question is simple: How does one cause shared folders to appear in Local Network instead of in The Internet?

Thanks for your help

Thanks for the reply RebateMonger. Sorry for the omission. Windows XP Pro with SP3 -- on all machines on the LAN.

Hmmm...I've never noticed that behavior. I took a look at my XP Pro SP3 copy in my Win7 Virtual XP Mode, added a couple of "My Network Places" shortcuts, and they all show up in my "Local Network".

A quick Internet search found one MS Networking expert who said it can be initiated by third-party firewlls.

If so, you could test it by TEMPORARILY disabling that firewall, deleting one or more of the "misbehaving" My Nework Places shortcuts, and then re-creating the shortcut and seeing where it ends up in the My Network Places listings.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I do not know the Internet Grouping. I have looked in Group Policies in the System32 folder in Windows but found nothing there that seems of interest. A web search for Internet Grouping -- both alone and with Windows XP -- didn't help. If you will tell me where to find the information I will send it along. I can capture screen shots with SnagIt and post a link for the jpg file.
