Shared directories disappear

Hi all,

I would like to backup one specific folder from 25 workstations. e.g backup
d:\folder.
Each workstation has hidden shares (x$) on all the drives.
The problem is the shared directories disappear (meaning, become unshared), thus
failing the backup process. I have no idea why this happens. At first I thought
it happens after the workstations boot, but found out it happens even when they don't.
The PDC is running NT Server w/ SP 6, and the workstations are Win2K
Professional & NT4 Workstations.
BTW, I don't know if this is related, but the policy file has the "Create hidden
drive shares (workstation)" option checked.

Any help would be highly appreciated,
TIA,

Share the specific folder that you would like to backup. Dunno why it becomes unshared but maybe in policies it is set for logging off after some time.

Thanks for the reply, cirrus1.
I tried that already, but with no success.
Besides, I 'm really stumped- why on earth would the share "unshare" itself?!?

hmmm the closest thing I have found is this: In local security policies under security options there are some options. "Amount of idle time required before disconnecting session" & "Automatically log off users when...". Try to change the values and see if it helps.

Note: My settings are 15min and enabled, and my machine doesn't unshare the directories 😕

Nope. I have the same settings.
Oh, one more thing: this also happens on computers running NT4 Workstation, and (if i recall) don't have all the Local Security Policy features of Win2K.
