I'm planning on getting 20-30% tints all around, which I know is illegal here in NJ.
But I liked the functionality of tint during summer (i.e. keeping the interior cool, blocking the sun, etc.).
Of course the added bonus is that I think it looks great on a black car.

I've heard that people getting pulled over and fined for tint, usually fined on top of another traffic violation (speeding).
But I see a LOT of other cars on the road with close to limo tint.
Are they just absorbing the cost of the fine, or are they just getting lucky and not getting fined at all.

I would like to get tints without driving with my fronts down all the time.
Anyone have any personal experiences with tinting and the law?

I have 20% tint all the way around (I have a 98 Acura Integra GSR, not riced, unless you count tint and nice Momo wheels as rice).
It is illegal to have tint on the front windows in Oregon but I have never been pulled over or ticketed for it (even though I have been pulled over and ticketed for other reasons, like speeding, although not in the last 2 years). Ironically, I have been pulled over and not ticketed twice for not having a front license plate (to avoid photo radar), but never for the tint.
Just my experiences...

Usually the police will only pull you over for something like illegal tinting if they are suspicious of you. Most of the time it just makes an easy probable cause. If you get pulled over for tinting here in CA they will usually give you a "fix it" ticket so it doesn't cost you anymore than your time.

here its illegal to have tints on the windows around the driver so the cops can see the driver clearly. Few years ago I even saw the cops pulling a kid who had obviosly just gotten his drivers license for exactly this, his father was the passanger and they were forced to removethe front window tints right there on the spot.

what's the real reason for tint being illegal anyway?

hinder's vision? so the cop can see the driver? both?

i highly doubt it's for the safety of the cop, since rear tints are legal, what's to prevent a rear passenger to conceal a weapon.

All of the above and then some.. just think about it. I could have a gun on my lap, I could be doing just about anything..

A cop can't see if I have my seat belt on.. blah blah blah.
