Hey guys i have a weird problem lol.
So i just got DirecTV with DVR/HD, it has two NICs so that you can connect it to the internet to download movies on demand and stuff.

Now i have a Media PC under it that has Wifi because where the router is in my townhouse i can not run CAT5 down to the living room because there is no way without cutting holes in a wall or floor.

So what i want to know is if there is any way to share my media PCs wifi through its other NIC to the DVR? i tried bridging it and also sharing it but never seems to work, give me an error about the NIC has an IP address already or it just locks up.

also if there's not way to do that then does anyone know how to make a linksys 54G rev.4 work that way?

Thanks
-Ryan

It is Not clear what exactly you have there and waht is connected to what???

If the DVR needs to become Wireless you have to find out what (if at all) can make it Wireless?

If it can work with stand alone WIFI device you need a gamebox type Wireless or a dedidcated Wireless Router (in addtion to your Network Router) that can be configured a Wireless Bridge.

How is it not clear? He has a DVR that is network capable through a patch cable. And has a HTPC near it that is on the network via wireless. He doesnt want to MAKE the DVR wireless, he wants to share the network connection that the HTPC has by patching it to the Ethernet port on the DVR box.

What OS is on the Media PC / HTPC?

Internet connection sharing may work in your case.

How is it not clear? .

I am sorry that I am Not as smart as you are. :(

However I recently decide to graduate from the state of Guess what my problem is.

If the person is Not inline to put effort in explaining clearly his problem, I am Not going to put the effort in Guessing an answer.

As a Mod. I am aware of this thread being up there for 3 days.

It is uncommon in the Network forum that a post would sit there for 3 days.

The existence of ICS (that might or might not be the right answer) is a common knowlegde to at list 99% of the frequent participant in this forum.

In my first post i explained that i already tried Sharing ( ICS ) my connections and it never seems to work.

Im running XP Pro.

and JackMDS... i dont get how Paperlantern understood my problem by you didn't...
also as i mod i would think you would not go off on another member because they understood it and you didn't...

now back on topic.
Paperlantern, yes thats 100% what im trying to do.
But i already tried ICS and it never works or gives me an error about the NIC already has an address or something like that.

and for anyone that might not still understand.

DirecTV DVR NIC > PC NIC > through PC Wifi NIC > Router > Cable Modem > Internet

Thats what i want to do.

or

DirecTV NIC > linksys WR54G >--Wifi--> router> Cable Modem> Internet

My best advice to do this properly would be a wireless to ethernet bridge or a gaming adapter (which is essentially the same thing) and then you can just plug everything you have into that or just plug just your dvr into that and leave the media pc on wireless.

Highlight both network connections and right click and select bridge connections.

UPDATE-

So i tried it again with ICS and now it works, i think it might have been because i had the NIC from the media PC plugged into the DVR and it was somehow getting an IP from it and that was giving me the error. But now it works.
