Hi,

I have a comp at home which runs Win 2000 and acts as internet server to a few PC;s.

All my data is stored on this comp, almost a TB's worth.

Can I set my notebook up (running XP) to see one of the disk drives as if it was present in my small notebook.

Cheers,.

You have several options:

a) Buy a VPN Router and create a VPN tunnel from your laptop to your home network.

b) I suspect that Win 2000 allows a single VPN connection, like XP does. Set up Win2K as a VPN Server and create a VPN tunnel from your laptop to your home network.

c) Use a 3rd-party remote access program (like LapLink or PCAnywhere) to link the two PCs.

d) Use VNC to work remotely on your Win2K computer. VNC probably has an option to make your remote (laptop) drive appear on the Win2K desktop, which would then allow you to copy files from one PC to the other.

Ultra VNC has a File transfer part that brings up a screen similar to classical FTP client.

I.e. the screen is divided into two, the Host Hard Drive tree and folder on one side, and the Viewer is on the other Side.

Like this, http://www.ezlan.net/example/vnc_file.jpg

Cannot be simpler!

Use the DSM add-on and it 128bit encrypted as well.
