Maybe I'm off my rocker and lack the self-awareness to notice. My networking knowledge ends with basic home networking setup.
I'm moving my small operation out of my small apartment and into a small office. My apartment has cable modem access, and I will be sharing a DSL line by router (not yet purchased) at the new office.
I'm considering setting up a VPN between a Win2K Server box in the apartment and a Win2K/XP box in the office to avoid bringing in a second phone line for fax, and using my apartment phone line for faxing. Not like it will be used during the day anyway, and I don't send or receive many faxes.
Really, this is more a feasibility study than anything.
Can you share a faxmodem over a LAN? A VPN? Would it be recognized like a local modem?
Finally, do I need a VPN router for a simple PPTP connection, and should I be considering another protocol?
Thanks for your insights and psycological assessments.
Regards,
Craig
