200GB per month, wow, after a bit of time you must be downloading some real gems like the complete video history of sand.

:D It's $50 for 1TB, not 500gb. You said you average 200gb per month. Well, you just proved it would be cheaper for you to get the 1TB/$50 deal than the monthly. 1TB should last you 5 months based on your usage. 5 months x your discounted $12 a month is $60. At $15 a month, your looking at $75 so you can download your 1TB. Looks like your paying 20-50% higher to do the monthly instead of the 1TB blocks.

Exactly

Owned by math.

Thanks OP/everyone else. Currently using 9.99 month plan for 20gb [with roll over] which I rarely ever hit.

I wonder though - how does the download speeds compare to giganews, easynews, etc?

Astraweb is a higher end provider, so speed should be top notch. I use newsgroupdirect and I easily max out my cable with 20 or so connections.

For everybody jumping on the block plan, you can also subscribe for a free usenet server for those times where it's not important to have it now. This provider gives 2 connections at about 60kb each. Slow, slightly unreliable, but free.

I use Sickbeard and SABNZBD on a Linux media server. Block plans wouldn't last me a week. FYI, maximumusenet.com often has sales on their unlimited monthly plans and they compare well with Giganews for retention (and have European servers). Yesterday they had a $5.50/month unlimited plan, though even at $9 it's a good deal.

Still, for those that block plans really makes sense for, it's nice they have deals like this.

Download speeds are maxing out my connection, I believe they resell the same service as easynews.

thecubenet has a $7.99 monthly unlimited, best price I can find for unlimited right now. https://www.thecubenet.com/clients/cart.php?a=add&pid=12&promocode=craycray

theusenet.com is a cheaper but comparable quality. i've been using them since last fall and am ordering again. Good service, good prices and no throttling so far. They just sent an email about St. Patty's weekend specials http://www.theusenet.com/usenet-specials.php , the 60GB/mo for $4.00 looks good.

I did a little googling on theusenet since it seems like a good deal but it seems they have very iffy customer service and they cc all their customers in their marketing emails... basically your email is revealed to everyone. I would recommend avoiding them

that requires a 12 month prepayment, don't want to put that much forward at once.

That's you.
If you can't personally afford it, feel free to pay monthly with CubeNet or whatever Highwind server farms of your choice.

For everyone else that can afford to pay all at once, get Astraweb unlimited for $96/year.
They're much more superior to CubeNet and other Highwind server farms.
